Yes, term break!!
This has been a whirlwind 8-week term and I’m very glad it’s over. I have a two-week vacation ahead of me now, only five days of which will be taken over by travelling, so expect about 3 more weeks’ worth of blog posts before they peter out for another 11-week term.
When it reaches temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius and you don’t have air conditioning, certain measures have to be taken to prevent the melting of chocolate and nail polish.
An important lesson was learned that weekend, however: you must never, ever trust anyone but yourself to bring the bug spray (or aeroguard, as they seem to call it here). All three of us forgot, which led to extreme discomfort for the week following this camping weekend. I had 60 mozzie (aka mosquito) bites on my feet and ankles alone. I only had one pair of shoes I could wear without going crazy with the itching and we had a bite-relief station (complete with vinegar and calamine lotion) set up on the dining room table for those middle-of-the-night itch attacks.
A dinner of steak and onions and a breakfast of eggs, grilled tomatoes, bacon and sausages— all the Aussie bloke food groups covered!
Neil chose a little clearing by the creek for our campsite. The entrance to this clearing was mostly hidden from the road by brush, but he’d discovered it on a walk once and we were lucky enough to find it empty when we arrived on Saturday afternoon.
We set up our tent and fire and got to relaxing with our beer and chocolate!
